"eBay Powerseller and Website Success Guide "

Many people have their own online store in addition to a having a presence on eBay. If you are one of them, you may have realized that your eBay store attracts a higher amount of traffic than your online store or website. You can, in fact drive the traffic you receive on eBay to your website, but you must adhere to eBay’s policies when doing this.

An easy but effective way is to host the graphics and images displayed on your eBay listings or eBay Store on your website. You can host these images on external servers for free or for a small fee, or on eBay’s servers as well, but doing this will not give exposure to your website. Search engines will be able to link from eBay’s site to your website since the images on your eBay page will have to be loaded from your website.

Additionally, some web browsers display the location of the content being loaded in the status bar at the bottom. Assuming the name of your business is AcmeProducts, the web browser might display a status message such as “Loading images from http://www.acmeproducts.com/”.

This is a great way to get your potential customer to notice your website URL, thereby increasing the amount of traffic you receive.

Another way to advertise your website is by registering your eBay account using an email account associated with your domain name. Coming back the example earlier, when you use an email address such as sales@acmeproducts.com as your registered address, you will be able to include it in your product listings. This is an excellent way to promote your domain name and will certainly drive traffic to your website.

A similar idea based on the above tip is to base your eBay user ID on your domain name. This is an innovative way to circumvent the restriction eBay places on using your domain name as your userID. For instance, you might register acme_products as your userID, which can give a clue to your potential customer about your domain name.

Besides the various tips described above, perhaps the most powerful method to drive traffic to your website is the About Me page. It is important to keep in mind that eBay has put in place certain restrictions as to the content which can be placed in this page.

For instance, you cannot use the About Me page to promote products which you are not selling on eBay. Additionally, you also cannot link to other trading or auction sites, or offer products which are not permitted by eBay.

What you can do is include a link to your website, provided it does not sell the same items listed in your auctions in eBay.

While it may look restrictive on the surface, if you use this feature wisely, you will be able to drive a substantial amount of traffic to your website from eBay.

While any of the above methods will increase the traffic to your online store, it is important to be thoroughly familiar with eBay’s policy on linking to your website from your eBay page or listings. It is also a good idea to revisit their policy from time to time to ensure you comply if there are any changes, to prevent your eBay account from being affected.
